October 2018: The clash of forces from the United and Federated States delivers a crushing blow to the Republic of Texas. Though the RoT provided much resistance, the rapid expansion of RoT territory proved too much for their forces to defend. The battle officially destabilizes the region. States and citizens from all sides are reeling from the sudden upset and potential consequences. There is no real leader now as the country is fractured from coast to coast.
January 2019: With winter upon the already depressed country, the United States moves to capitalize on turmoil in the area and launches an offensive to regain the Midwest. The optimistic maneuver only succeeds in over extending the military and crippling the ability of the government to provide safety to their citizens. No territory is regained. Citizens across the broken nations are exhausted and looking for relief.
March 2019: By now, the Federated States of the West have completely restructured their country. Each governor has secured a seat in the Presidential Congress, an entity of joint leadership. Anticipating another offensive from the US, the Congress decides to begin absorbing the majority of the newly war torn territory. Pacific trade routes have made it possible for the West to provide necessities and comforts for their people. The war-torn states caught in the middle of this conflict are more than willing to join a country that can protect and provide for them.
June 2019: Foreign pressure is building as major economies are waiting for an American resolution. The President of the United States has been able to buy time up to this point, but he can see that he has little leverage with the Pacific coast no longer under his control. President Bell and his cabinet meet to discuss an alliance with the West. Dwindling resources and the inability to stabilize the country leaves the US with few options. He doesn’t want enlist foreign allies until he has attempted negotiations with the West.
August 2019: Negotiations for an alliance between the US and the West are not going well. Still bitter after being abandoned by the US, the West knows they have a strong upper hand. They have gained territory against the RoT, can provide for their citizens, and have the support of their people and Pacific countries. After months of arduous negotiations, President Bell refuses to relinquish anything. He continues to insist the West rejoin the US, or, at the very least, provide military assistance against the RoT. In response, the Congress insists the West absorb the remaining United States. Negotiations of an alliance are at a standstill. On his way home to D.C., Air Force One is shot down. The US suffers yet another tragedy. President Bell and several of his cabinet members are killed. The RoT claims responsibility for the assault. Americans and Westerners are furious. The Congress approaches the remaining US Cabinet members about resuming negotiations. There is no alliance. This is a union. The Federated States of America is born. FSA begins to transport food, supplies, and other necessities to their new constituents, the former US citizens. In exchange, they transport back anyone willing to fight against the RoT. The response is immediate and overwhelming. The FSA is building a war machine.
September 2019: Forces from the FSA and RoT are headed to the Texas/Oklahoma border. The region was stabilized months ago by the RoT, but locals are fleeing due to rumors of an impending battle. Both sides know that Texas is the key. The RoT must defend its territory home state, and the FSA must take it over entirely. There is no room for error on either side.
October 2019: “Give me liberty, or give me death.” Fight for your side.
